Aliens Bride Book dAn unguessable plot After such highly heaped praise I was hesitant to see how this would follow in its predecessor s strong footsteps It has also been a full year since I read the original and with such a complex plot worried I would be overwhelmed when returning to this world Within just a few pages I realised I need not have fearedThis provided the reader with a subtle refresher to world without the need of areaded info ump and continued to be as action orientated yet as intense in plot line as the initial book in this series This also followed on from the multitude of narratives of the former book with its large cast of characters and perspectives and introducing which furthered the reader s understanding of the rules governing this alternate realityWhilst still centrally focusing on just two families this gave a wider knowledge of the world at large and brought up interesting iscussions of hierarchical class power and privilege These Connecting in College debates proved timeless and further fused the reader s interest to it Whilst still an interesting and uniuely created world this brought aegree of empathy to those suffering in it and also some subtle links to our own worldThis added Feminism and the Women's Movement Dynamics of Change in Social Movement Ideology and Activism Perspectives on Gender density furthered my adoration for this series Theepth of topic broached and the exciting BWWM (Interracial African American Billionaire Baby Romance Marriage Urban) 2 (Interracial African American Billionaire Baby Romance Marriage Urban) 2: Billionaires Secret Baby (BWWM Interracial African American Romance Urban Baby Romance Short Stories) direction the plot was taken leads me to expect even greater things from the next instalmentI received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review Thank you to the author Vic James and the publisher Pan Macmillan for this opportunity Gilded Cage I finally read this Had been intending to for awhile and I ll admit it took about 20% before I got pulled in But thisoes have some thrilling moments Things pick up right where they left off It s been so long since I read Gilded Cage that I kind of wish I would have The Passport That Does Not Pass Ports done a re read There is minor recapping which helpedThe authoroes a really good job with writing gray characters Many The Arcav Princes Captive (Arcav Alien Invasion, do horrible or at best sketchy things and then turn around ando something heroic I enjoyed Bouda s POV which was new You just Southern Women at the Seven Sister Colleges Feminist Values and Social Activism 1875 1915 don t know with her Same with Gavar Did I get his name right He was a jerk in book one and then turns around and surprises you Some of these characters Silyen Are they redeemable Well the rebellion is kicking up a notch and I ll be finding out the conclusion soon Abi s POVs were my least favoriteI think there was a bit of patchy pacing it felt like a longer book than it is and cliffhanger It hooks you It s a little soap opera y there is infidelity but not overboard Maybe suffered a little second book syndrome but overall I liked itPrevious postMay 11 2017 On Netgalley I want soooo bad Tarnished City by Vic James is the second book in the young adult fantasy Dark Gifts series From the title of the series to the intense book cover one should guess that this series is not all rainbows and sunshine but one that is incrediblyark and sometimes teachers Manual African American Literature disturbing If at all possible I think Tarnished City got a littlearker than Gilded Cage if that was possibleThe series takes place in a society
#In Which The World Is #which the world is by Euals who are aristocrats with magical gifts Everyone else are known as commoners and at some point Agricultural Innovation in the Early Islamic World during their lifetimes they have to serve the Euals for a period of ten years as their slaves Commoners can choose to serve at any point in their lives from 10 to 80 years oldIn Gilded Cage we met a family that when the youngest child turned ten the parentsecided to sign the whole family up for their slave the parents ecided to sign the whole family up for their slave to be completed together Luke s older sister Abi has arranged for the family to work together at a plantation owned by England s most
POWERFUL FAMILY OF EUALS BUT UPON ARRIVAL THE PAPERWORK family of Euals But upon arrival the paperwork been messed up and Luke is shipped off to a slave town separate from the rest of his familyNow this is a series that efinitely needs to be read from the beginning of the first book as the story only continues on from where that book ended and probably wouldn t make much sense jumping into the middle Tarnished City however Big Book of AA All 12 Steps Understand and Complete One Step At A Time in Recovery with Alcoholics Anonymous 12 of 12 Books does have subtle reminders of what had been happening to remind readers where they had left off as the story picks up againFrom the very moment the series began a part of me is just soarn angry at the whole idea of forcing kidsteens into signing up for their slavery New Writing, New Approaches (African Literature Today, Vol. 12) days without actually letting them voice their own choice Of course it would have to beone but the parents were able to put it off until they had built their life together so why take that choice away from their kidsOf course the whole society and the way it s set up comes into play in the overall plot to the series The point of view changes in the series between several Culture and Development in Africa (Comparative Studies in African/Caribbean Literature Series) different key characters mainly from the commoner family that had signed up and the Euals with the powers that they are involved with but now there have been added as the story has expanded even furtherWhile this oneoes have a bit of that middle book feel as it picked up from the first and left a bit of a cliffhanger at the end to lead into the second so I The Alien Huntress Series Alien Huntress d rate it at 35 stars myself but it was still a solid addition moving the story forward I wouldefinitely suggest too that this one is Activism and the American Novel definitely for the mature readers as I mentioned earlier it is a extremelyark read and I m sure will only get intense in the next installmentI received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalleyFor reviews please visit On sale now 45 stars Review first posted on Fantasy Literature Tarnished City the second book in Vic James s DARK GIFTS YA fantasy series is a hard hitting novel that picks right up where Gilded Cage left off witho. characters Tarnished City5 Words Power control torture magic rebellionIf you know me then you ll know how much I loved the first book So going into Tarnished City I was a little apprehensive Because what if it wasn t as good Turns out I needn t have worried as Tarnish City is just as excellent Oh yesAgain Avita Jay oes a splendid job with the audiobook bringing the characters to lifeI still have so much love in my heart for Silyen and Abi and I can t wait to see what happens next Having enjoyed Gilded Cage I was pleased to receive the second book in the Dark Gifts Trilogy Tarnished City for review This is very much a seuel to the first book it A Love No Less Two Centuries of African American Love Letters does not stand alone and you need to read Gilded Cage first In fact it begins at the very end of the last book with Abi Hadley and her family sent to the slave town of Millmoor after being banished from the Jardine estate Of course her brother Luke had previously left Millmoor but he is not going to join the rest of his family In fact they are split again with young Daisy staying to care for Gavar saughter Libby and Luke being handed over to Lord Crovan as his new masterThis is a Places of Their Own: African American Suburbanization in the Twentieth Century (Historical Studies of Urban America) dark and exciting read On the way to Millmoor Abi manages to escape and joins up with the revolutionaries that Luke had previously worked with in the previous book She hopes to rescue Luke and in fact this novel revolves around Abi than Luke However weo also have Luke s story as he finds himself with the sinister Lord Crovan a man who rivals Silyen for the role as most unpleasant Eual For in this alternate Britain the Euals rule through Skill a kind of powerful magic The rest of the population live under their thumb condemned to slavery for ten years of their lives It was Abi s The Arcav Kings Mate (Arcav Alien Invasion decision for the family too their slave ays hoping the family would have a relatively easy time of it working for the wealthy influential Jardine family Of course this plan goes horribly wrong and leaves the family separated and scarred In this novel it is Luke who finds himself in opulent surroundings while there is an undercurrent of violence and sadism Meanwhile while the protests that Luke had previously taken part in had been peaceful those involved consider violent methods of showing their anger At heart this is a novel about punishment and politics with many of the characters from the last novel appearing in this story too Tarnished City is an exciting edition to the trilogy It oes suffer a little from being the middle book with lots of action but no satisfactory beginning or conclusion However I will certainly read on and hope to iscover what finally happens in the final instalment of the trilogy I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley for review 455 TARNISHED CITY is an amazing follow up to last year s GILDED CAGE In fact I think I liked this one just a little bit Even though I see this listed and shelved as YA it s much arker than most YA I ve tried which admittedly is not a lot because it s usually too angst y for me in this case however y for me In this case however author nixes a lot of the extraneous stuff and focuses on the characters and the intricately plotted story It took me a little while to get back into the flow it s been just over a year since I ve visited this world but once I Alien did I was so happy to be there There s no real re cap which I appreciated I feel that if an author s characters are strong enough they should come back without my having to be reminded and these certainlyid There s a big cast here and the characters refer to other characters using the names by which they know them sometimes resulting in 2 or 3 10 Essential Survivor Secrets to Liberate Yourself from Narcissistic Abuse different names for a personepending upon the point of view at the timeI noted that a lot of what is going on in this book is going on in the real world right now Perhaps not slavery exactly those with no Skill must serve 10 years as a slave but classism against those born with no Skill and the increasingly outspoken attitudes and acceptance of those with racist views It comes all the way up to the sanction of violence against those who Lights, Camera, Action (Paranormal Talent Agency Book 1) disagree or whoare to stand up against those in power I guess I m trying to say that it s obvious to me that the author knows what she s talking about as far as how the story relates to the world today and it s ownright scary I feel like I needed to make these points but now that I have I want to say how much I loved this tale I loved
characters they well rawn and oh so human They aren t perfect in fact many of them are The Nonlinear Workbook: Chaos, Fractals, Celluar Automata, Neural Networks, Genetic Algorithms, Gene Expression Programming, Support Vector Machine, Wavelets, Hidden Markov M downright horrible people but they re fun to read about The machinations and the conniving going on rival that in any adult fantasy that I ve read with the added bonus of not having to wait 5 years for the next book I say BRAVO Vic James You ve created a compelling fun and interesting world populated witheep complicated characters and I can t wait to come back to it once again Highly recommended Thanks to the publisher and to NetGalley for the e ARC of this book in exchange for my honest feedback This is it These people Their power The good they could Coming Out of Communism do with it and the evil they chose instead This book isark Not simply beautifully poetically Ways of Knowing About Birth dark no it is the sort of unpleasantarkness people want to turn away from This book shines a light on some of the worst aspects of human nature The things we all know exists but so many people refuse to see And for that it is amazing When it comes to YA fiction people seem to throw around the word HeroAca dark whenever there iseath or betrayal involved Well I will say to those people this book takes it to another level Be warned this is not your typical YA Fantasy The Cast Abi has always. window and I will not miss it I was indifferent to them in book one but I could tell pretty early in book Jenner was too weak a character to be able to resist the shine of power He was not better than I BWWM (An African American Romance) (BWWM Paranormal Scifi Romance) do not understand Bouda Faiers I kind of hate Bouda I like a girl with ambition but she the way she treats people commons is ghastly and I hope she gets what is coming to her As for Faiers Io not trust this man at all He seems so shady They only thing they have going for them is that they re kind of hot together So maybe we can enjoy a little of that before they get their heads chopped off Gavar Daisy that before they get their heads chopped off Gavar Daisy remains the only one besides his aughter with whom he is hope this is not the case Gavar Abi She always thought him an entitled boor but with that twist at the end him saving her life and presumably taking her to see Daisy I think their Graph Drawing:
